Restore Lost Facial Volume with Injectable Fillers
Around age 30, your skin’s collagen production starts to slow down. Collagen is a structural protein that gives your skin youthful strength, elasticity, and fullness. When collagen levels decrease, your skin thins, making it more vulnerable to fine lines and wrinkles.
On top of that, the subcutaneous layer of fat under the skin decreases and gravitates downward, causing the skin to sag and crease.
You can’t stop the skin’s natural aging process, but fillers can restore some lost volume and bring back a more youthful look. At Plainsboro-Princeton Medical Associates in Plainsboro Township and Monroe, New Jersey, Dr. Aruna Chakrala and our team want you to look as young as you feel and offer aesthetic treatments, including dermal fillers.
In this month’s blog, we explain how dermal fillers restore lost facial volume and your youthful look.
About injectable fillers
Injectable fillers are a cosmetic treatment that reduces the visible signs of aging and enhances natural beauty. As one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the United States, they’re quick and require little downtime.
The gel-like injections add volume under the skin, replacing the losses from thinning layers of collagen and fat in the skin, making it plump and pliable again.
Types of injectable fillers
Injectable fillers come in many types. At Plainsboro-Princeton Medical Center, we use the Juvederm line of dermal fillers. These injections contain a hyaluronic acid gel that adds volume under the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in the skin that helps hold moisture.
We may use Voluma® or Volbella® dermal fillers from Juvederm for injectable fillers.
Voluma
Voluma is a long-lasting injectable filler that lifts sagging cheeks and restores natural contours. The effects of the treatment can last up to two years.
Volbella
Volbella is an injectable filler for the lips and the lipstick lines that form around them. Volbella plumps up thin lips and fills in the lines, creating a more youthful look. Our lip injections last up to a year.
How injectable fillers work
Injectables add volume under the skin, plumping up and filling in. Our skilled and experienced team gives you an evaluation before we begin the aesthetic treatments to determine the best one(s) to meet your goals.
We recommend injectable fillers for adults 21 and older with mild to moderate skin aging. We also offer Botox® injections to reduce the appearance of lines and creases around the eyes and on the forehead, and skin rejuvenation with xeo® by Cutera® — a laser tool that revitalizes the skin from the inside out.
After we decide injectable fillers are the best choice for you, we create your plan. You don’t need to do anything to prepare for your treatment.
We apply a numbing cream to minimize discomfort before injecting the gel. We then expertly inject small amounts of the filler into the desired areas, massaging and reinjecting to get the right look.
You may have some swelling and redness at the site of your treatments after your session, but these side effects resolve quickly. You can return to your usual routine afterward; however, we advise that you avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 24 hours to reduce the risk of bruising.
Results from injectable fillers are immediate.
